The main street of Granum approximately sometime in 1913.
The Town of Granum was first incorporated as the "Village of Leavings" on July 12, 1904. The original name of "Leavings" came from the fact that this was the point where the Macleod-Calgary Trail left Willow Creek. The name of the community was later changed to Granum in 1907. "Granum" is the Latin word for Grain. The community was made a Town on November 7, 1910 and has kept its status as a town since that time.

The Town Office in Granum still looks the same in 2009 and it's still 'business as usual'. The only visual you won't see outside now is the 'telephone booth!!!"
The following is quite an interesting letter, courtesy of the Canadian Prairie Sentinels Gallery
"My parents, Ann and Ned Palmer, were married in this town hall on June 20, 1929. They intended to get married on my father's birthday (June 21st) in Fort Macleod, AB, however, on the drive from Calgary their car broke down near Granum and they had to come in for repairs. The local garage was unable to repair the car the same day and alternative transportation was not available. They had to stay overnight. In those days custom did not permit single people to stay together in local hotels. Fortunately they were able to get a proper official to marry them in the town hall. They arrived in Fort Macleod the next day, already married. Harry Palmer"
